The surface emissivity of the cooler tubes is a function of the surface condition. New unoxidized boiler steel is between 0.7 and 0.75, normal oxidized boiler steel is between 0.8 and 0.85, and strongly oxidised boiler steel between 0.9 and 0.95.

The surface temperatures for the planetary cooler must be done per individual tube for every meter, and these measurements entered. The zero position is at the cooler inlet (i.e. position closest to the kiln).
